Discover the Next Generation of Christian Storytellers…

Featuring Helen Curtis

Wherever she goes, Helen Curtis always seeks the tallest point to climb and challenges herself to climb it. She loves how the thrill of the view is the victory to the challenge of climbing. She writes stories that show that victory, just like the view, is worth fighting for. When she’s not writing (or trying to conquer yet another hike), you’ll find her hiding in corners debating philosophical questions and scheming ludicrous personal dares.
About Her Short Story
Elka just barely remembers when the sun’s light touched the land, when the warmth of its rays fell on her skin. But it’s been five years since the sun set for the last time, and Elka feels as dreary and dead as the land, her only motivation being the love for her adopted younger sisters and their survival.
When one of her sisters falls sick, Elka learns they need to see the sun to live, or else her sister will die. Elka cannot let her sisters suffer any more so she sets out to find the sun, heading east where the sun used to rise with all of her adopted sisters. But what she doesn’t know is the only way for the sun to be convinced, though, is if she can show it that life is full of enough joy—something that Elka is struggling to believe herself.
