Discover the Next Generation of Christian Storytellers…

The eighth edition of Voices of the Future weaves together short stories of myth and memory in a memorable and heartwarming collection. Experience the next generation’s creativity and vision through tales from rising young creatives.

Featuring Kara Hatt

Ever since Kara Hatt entered the realm of Narnia and encountered Aslan, she’s created many fantastical worlds where encountering truth can be a radical experience. Since then she’s wanted to tell stories that give space for Christians to ponder burning questions while affirming the values of their faith. She found Ted Dekker’s novels in high school and was further inspired by his writing skill and thematic storytelling. When Kara is not working on her novel she can be found riding her mountain bike, brainstorming a new short story, or brushing up on a new theology book.

About Her Short Story

Surface Protocol: Avoid All Water by Kara Hatt

Far, far away on the planet Animus lives a cautious ten-year-old boy called Ferdinand. He’s terrified at the thought of leaving his family’s spaceship. After nearly drowning while playing with his alien friend, Ame, he avoids the planet’s surface which is prone to flooding. But when Ame gets a lethal viral infection, Ferdinand must retrieve the herb from the planet’s surface to cure her. But can he face his fears and reach the herb fast enough before an imminent flood washes it away?
