Discover the Next Generation of Christian Storytellers…

The eighth edition of Voices of the Future weaves together short stories of myth and memory in a memorable and heartwarming collection. Experience the next generation’s creativity and vision through tales from rising young creatives.

Featuring Karissa Chmil

Karissa Chmil spent her childhood running through Indiana cornfields, climbing the French alps, and exploring West African savannas, learning from a young age that there is delight hidden in every corner of the world. Now she writes stories that help kids fall in love with goodness, sweeping them off on quests while showing that virtue is the greatest adventure of all.

When she’s living a story rather than writing one, you can find her studying foreign languages, ink drawing with fountain pens, and coddiwompling across whatever tree-ish place she can find.

About Her Short Story

At the Crossroads of Adventure by Karissa Chmil

Ten-year-old Terrence has grown up in a family-run inn at the crossroads of adventure, caught between tale-telling travelers and the daily hum-drummities of wiping tables and serving soup.

He’s thrilled when his fifteen-year-old brother, Cayden, returns after months of adventuring in far-off mountains. But Cayden arrives on their mother’s birthday—and he brings a dragon scale as his present.

Suddenly, Terrence’s own birthday present feels woefully inadequate. But he can’t disappoint Mum—not on her birthday. The solution? Find a gift of his own that will prove he’s just as heroic as his big brother.
