Distinctive #1: Character
As Christians, our founders and faculty care about you as a whole person.
The Next Lewis & Tolkien
Our mission is to train the next C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. We’re inspired by these beloved authors who combined the highest levels of artistic excellence with strong Christian faith in order to impact readers across cultural lines.
As a student in the Author Conservatory you will be poured into by faculty who care about your character, not just your career. We want to equip you to write stories that impact readers, whether those stories are explicitly Christian or not.
You are Welcome Here
We believe in a Creator who deeply cares for every person. Our goal is to love like Jesus, and be a place where all feel welcome and respected.
As such, we welcome any student, regardless of whether they share our faith tradition or not. All students from all backgrounds will receive the same mentorship, support, and care from our faculty who want to see them thrive.
“The Author Conservatory pours so deeply into us as people, not just students trying to pass a grade”
We love Jesus, and we are committed to kindness, integrity and transparency, both in public and in private.
Our instructors adhere to the Apostles’ Creed and hold to the core tenets of the orthodox Christian faith.
We are not a church and don’t hold chapel services or attempt to dictate theology to our students.
We talk about real life as people of faith and how we seek to live with integrity.
We want to help you have an impact – whether you are writing for the Christian market or are headed mainstream.
Study under Christian Professionals
No matter what readership you’re pursuing, you need to know what the heart and vision of your story is—and how to meet market needs without compromising that core. Our instructors are Christian publishing professionals with years of experience, who understand the pivotal relationship between personal beliefs and writing.
That’s why our instructors and coaches are particularly passionate about equipping students to integrate faith with their writing and entrepreneurship. We want to prepare our graduates from all backgrounds to navigate the publishing industry with integrity.
We do not seek to perform the role of pastors or church leaders in our students’ lives.
Character Development through Mentorship
In addition to equipping students to live out their faith with wisdom, we believe in helping them grow holistically through mentorship and personal support.
By prioritizing personal relationships between faculty and students, we provide students with a safe place to wrestle through hard questions and make their beliefs their own.
“I am proud of everything I’ve accomplished in the Conservatory, but I am MOST proud of who I have become and how God has worked in me.”
Write Stories that Unleash Hope
Our world desperately needs writers who combine character and competence, faith and artistry, humility and ambition in the way Tolkien and Lewis did.
If this is your vision, we would love to support you. That means caring about you as a whole person, helping you pursue your dreams in a healthy way, and challenging you to grow as a storyteller.
